Week 2: 7/25 - 7/31

We are in Big Bear, CA for our annual cross county camp at 7,000 feet elevation.

Monday morning was 6 miles at an easy 7 minute pace, then the team headed to Big Bear, where we do double runs everyday and did a sort of fartlek, going 5 minutes easy then 10 minutes tempo (5:50 pace) for an hour. Daily total was 15 miles.

Tuesday morning we did 10 x 800 on a hilly loop going 2:50-3:00 for the first 7 and last 3 were around 2:35-40. In the afternoon we did 6 x 1200 cut downs. Starting at 4:30 and dropping 10 seconds each one, finishing at 3:39.  8 miles for the afternoon to total 15 miles for the day. Total was 15 miles for the day.

Wednesday is a recovery day with two easy runs, the morning run was 10 miles at a very easy 7:30 pace with a huge hill in the middle.
Afternoon run was a 5 mile run very easy. 15 mile day.

Thursday morning was 14 x 400 (half uphill, half downhill) with workouts as rest like last week. This was very tough at altitude so there were no specific times, just ran for effort. With warmup and cool down it was 6 miles. The afternoon was just a very easy 6 miler to rest the legs. 12 miles for the day.

Friday morning was our last run at altitude and it was just another 6 miles easy because everyone's legs were dead. Got back home and did another 6 miles with miles 2 and 3 a little faster at 5:40 pace just to get the legs moving. 12 miles today.

Saturday was a team run, 6 miles with the guys at 7 minute pace. In the afternoon I did 3 miles by myself to get 9 for the day.

Sunday was a long run in the hills just for a little extra mileage, did 8 miles and managed to fall 2 times in a 2 minute span, great start to the day.

Weekly total: 85 miles

This is by far the most mileage we do and next week will be back down to 55-60 miles.
