Florida Sweeps 100, Gatlin, Bromell & Bracy Going To Rio

Justin Gatlin lead a 1-2-3 sweep by Florida natives in the 100m dash final at the Olympic Trials. Gatlin crossed the line first in 9.80, he was closely followed by Travyon Bromell (9.84), while Marvin Bracy secured the third and final spot for Rio in 9.98. n(Below info Courtesy of NBCOlympics (http://liveextra.nbcsports.com) and USOC)

Gatlin's 9.80 lowered his own world leader set in the semifinals with his victory, Bromell's 9.84 equalled the rising star's personal best.

Gatlin will be representing the US in the Olympics for the third time. In 2004 he won the 100m gold medal, won silver as part of the 4x100m relay, and a bronze in the 200m. In London in 2012, Justin earned bronze in the 100m. He will compete in the 200m trials on Thursday.

Bromell & Bracy will represent the US in the Olympics for the first time. All three figure to run on the 4x100m team as well.

Gatlin opened the 1st round winning section two with a 10.03 to earn an automatic spot in the semifinals. Bromell showed no ill effects from an achilles injury that hampered his preparations for the trials as he clocked 9.94 to win section three, his time was the fastest of the first round. Bracy finished behind Bromell in section three in 10.08 to advance.

The times continued to drop in the semi's as Gatlin showed he would be one of the favorites for the final as he set a new world leader in 9.83 to win section one. Bromell was up next in section two and he executed a beautiful race that saw him cross the line in 9.86. Bracy ran in section three which was a very close race, he would finish in second 9.99 to nab the automatic qualifier for the final.
