Adam Dawson Sees Nice New PR on Day 1 of NBNO

Adam Dawson advanced his javelin PR to 171-11 on Day 1 of NBNO. Colorado Track XC file photo by Alan Versaw.

Adam Dawson doesn't see many opportunities to fling the javelin during the CHSAA-sanctioned season. So, you can hardly blame him for taking on the opportunity at Great Southwest and then again at New Balance Nationals.

The result has been back-to-back PRs of 166-9 and 171-11. You get the feeling he's just starting to find himself in the event. Dawson's throw of 171-11 placed him third in the Emerging Elite division of the New Balance Nationals javelin competition.

Elsewhere for Colorado on day 1 of the meet, Madison Mooney had a 5:25 mile that suggests something went very wrong. Temperatures were remarkably mild for North Carolina for mid June, so that is probably not your explanation.

The heptathlon has another day of competition and three more events to go, but in day 1, Anna Hall picked up 786 points (15.43) in the 100 hurdles, 806 points (5-5.25) in the high jump, 468 points in the shot put (29-8.75), and 834 points (25.58) in the 200 meters. That competition concludes today. Remaining for Hall are the long jump, javelin, and 800 meters.
