Colorado at Great Southwest, So Far...

The highlight of the first two days of competition at Great Southwest is indisputably a second-place finish for Kyle Rex in the decathlon. Rex's 6353 points ranks him high on the list of all-time Colorado marks for the event, probably in the top ten, though I do not have a comprehensive list of marks for that event.

Rex's top events are more or less what you'd expect them to be if you have followed his career. He cleared 14-7.25 in the pole vault to win that event and earn 746 points. Rex also picked up 703 points with a 16.27 in the 110 hurdles. Most other events were rather consistently in the 600s for the UCCS-bound senior.

RaeAnn Queener topped a Colorado delegation that also included Rylee Ries and Olivia Landers in the heptathlon with an eighth-place finish and 3848 points.

Jenna McCaffrey was Colorado's lone representative in the steeplechase, taking fifth in 7:43.94.

A lot of Colorado relays failed to materialize on Friday evening, but one that did materialize--the girls shuttle hurdler relay 'A' team ran 58.85 for second. The team included Emily Sloan, Kylie Davis, Anna Hall, and Kiana Gomez.
