Jamaicans Akeem Bloomfield, Kingston College To Race Great Southwest Classic

Top Jamaican high school program Kingston College will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico in June to compete at the Great Southwest Classic.

The meet will be held on June 2-4 and stream live on MileSplit.

This year at the Penn Relays Carnival, Kingston College set a new High School Boys 4x100m Championship of America meet record: 39.63.

The quartet that set that mark will all race in New Mexico: Akeem Bloomfield, Jhevaughn Matherson, Shivnarine Smalling and Tyreke Bryan.

Bloomfield is the Jamaican national junior record holder in the 400m, per his personal best of 44.93. He will compete in the event at Great Southwest.

Matherson (10.26 PR) and Smalling (10.45 PR) will both compete in the 100m. Bryan will compete in the 200m (21.44 PR).

Kingston College is not the first Jamaican team to make the trek to New Mexico. Last year, Calabar and their star, Michael O'Hara, competed at the annual post-season championship.
