Michael Slagowski Breaks Four Minutes in the Mile

Michael Slagowski of Rocky Mountain, Idaho, became the ninth prep to break four minutes in the mile on Friday night with a 3:59.54 effort at the Nike Jesuit Twilight in Portland, Oregon. He is the second-fastest miler in prep-only competition behind Jim Ryun's 3:58.3 effort from 1965.

His mark ranks No. 7 all-time in history, and didn't come from out of nowhere--he recently ran a solo 1:48.70 for 800m. Both times rank No. 1 in the nation this year.
