-- FloTrack (@FloTrack) October 24, 2015The debate is still in place for now about who deserves the designation of California's top-ranked runner, as No. 5 ranked Phillip Rocha ran 14:24 to finish just one second off the all-time course record with splits of 4:39 for one mile and 9:38 for two miles. The time stands as the fastest of the weekend over No. 2 ranked Austin Tamagno, who cruised 14:37 on Friday night. Tamagno set the course record last year but was unable to race in the primetime Team Sweepstakes race on Saturday morning due to standardized testing.
Rocha's time ties for No. 2 All-Time with Ammar Moussa, who is fittingly enough an Arcadia alumnus and currently of No. 1 ranked University of Colorado. The two share the No. 2 All-Time designation with Diego Mercado, who set the standard in 2005.
There was a record to be had on Saturday, however, as the No. 2 ranked Great Oak High School boys combined for a total team time of 74:48 to break the all-time course record. Spencer Dodds placed runner-up to Rocha in 14:37, as Cole Spencer (3rd, 14:42), Isaac Cortes (5th, 14:53), Solomon Fountain (10th, 15:13) and Carlos Carvajal (11th, 15:22) scored just 31 points with a 45-second spread. They averaged 14:57 and convincingly won over an impressive Dana Hills squad, 31 to 65 points.

No. 6 ranked Dana Hills packed three into the top 10 in Jake Ogden (6th, 14:55), Mason Coppi (7th, 14:56) and Jack Landgraf (8th, 15:01). With two more in the top 30, that squad would be tough for any team in the nation to beat... any team, that is, minus Great Oak, who is certainly looking primed for a national championship run in two months after being overlooked for an at-large bid last year.
