IAAF World Youth Championships Day 3 (Complete)

Team USA brought home two medals in the 100m on day two, with Candace Hill winning gold running a new meet record 11.08, and Jayla Kirkland winning bronze running 11.41. Also from the U.S. but running for Trinidad and Tobago, Khalifa St. Fort (FL) finished second in 11.19.

AM Session

  • Women's Triple Jump Qualification - Tara Davis jumped US #2 13.01m (42-08.25) in the second flight to hit the auto qualifying mark of 12.80m to advance to the Finals. Davis had the third furthest jump out of both flights. In the first flight, Lajarvia Brown jumped 12.74m to place 7th (14th overall) and just missed qualifying for Finals.
  • Women's 200m Heats - Candace Hill won the first of seven heats in 23.93 to automatically qualify to Finals with the third fastest time overall. Lauren Rain Williams won heat 4 with the fastest time of the prelims in 23.41.
  • Men's 200m Heats - Josephus Lyles ran 21.09 to win the fourth of eight heats. Maxwell Willis got 2nd in the eighth and final prelim heat running 20.99 to auto-qualify to Finals. He ran the 2nd fastest time of all eight heats.
  • Men Pole Vault Qualification - Freshman National Record Holder, Mondo Duplantis, cleared 4.95m, the auto-qualifying mark for Finals. Zachary Shugart, the only American in the competition, cleared 4.55m (14-11.25) on his second attempt and 4.70m (15-5) & 4.80m (15-9) on his first attempt. He then failed to clear 4.90m, finishing 16th overall and not advancing to the Finals.
  • Men's Discus Throw Qualification Group 'A' - In the first of two groups to qualify for Finals, Shot Put Champion Adrian Piperi placed 3rd with a throw of 58.62m (192-3.75). Since Piperi eclipsed 58.50m, he automatically qualified for Finals.
  • Men's Discus Throw Qualification Group 'B' - Gabriel Oladipo will join fellow American Adrian Piperi in the Finals after throwing 58.59m, just beyond the Finals auto qualifying mark of 58.50m. Oladipo placed 3rd in Group B and was only one of seven competitors out of both groups to throw beyond the auto qualifying mark.
  • Women's 100m Hurdles Heptathlon - In the third of five heats, Jordan Fields won in 14.07 to earn 968 points. Fields' performance was the fourth fastest time overall. In the second heat, Cacie Lanovaz broke the tape first, winning in 14.44 to score 917 points.
  • Women's High Jump Heptathlon - Jordan Fields and Cacie Lanovaz both cleared 1.61m but fail to execute on 1.64m, thus earning 747 points each from HJ off their 1.61m clearances.
  • Men 2000m Steeplechase Heats - There were no Americans in this event. Wogene Sebisibe of Ethiopia ran the fastest time in prelim heat 2 of 5:31.31.

PM Session

  • Women's Shot Put Heptathlon -In the shot put, Caice Lanovaz had a best throw of 11.22m (36-9.75) while Jordan fields had a best throw of 10.16m(33-4). They scored 610 and 540 points respectively
  • Women's Hammer throw Qualification Group A- No Americans- No Americans - Sofiya Palkina advances with the furthest throw of 65.50 meters
  • Men's 110 Hurdles Semi-Final- Isaiah Lucas won heat 2 of 3 in a time 13.50 and will advance to the finals. Norman Grimes finished 5th in heat 3 running 13.75; sadly, he will not advance.
  • Women's Hammer Throw Qualification Group B-No Americans- Melissa Coquillas of France advances with the furthest throw of 66.75
  • Men's triple Jump Final- No Americans- Cuba's Cristian Atanay Napoles takes the win jumping 16.13m ( 52-11)
  • Women's 800m Semi-Final- Sammy Watson wins heat 1 of two running 2:10.89 to advance to the finals.
  • Women's High Jump Final- No Americans-
  • Women's 200m Heptathlon- Jordan fields ran 25.93 in heat 2 scoring 803 points. In heat 4, Caice Lanovaz placed second running 25.29 for 860 points.
  • Men's 1500m Final- No Americans- Kunmari Taki of Kenyan wins in a meet record of 3:36.38
  • Men's Hammer Throw Final- After two rounds, Robert Colantonio Jr is sitting in 7th place ( 72.18m)
  • Women's 2000m Steeplechase Final- Rylee Bowen places 14th running 7:11.66
  • Women's 400m Final- Lyna Irby runs US #1 51.79 to place second. Symone Mason places 8th running 53.55
  • Men's 400M Final- Josephus Lyles and Keshun Reed place 2nd and 3rd running 45.46 and 45.96 respectively.
  • Men's 110m Hurdle Final- Isaiah Lucas runs 13.54 to place 3rd.
