California Preps Ready for Big Challenge at USATF Junior Nationals

Matt Katnik is one of several Golden State high-schoolers that will try to earn spots on Team USA for the Pan-Am Juniors in Canada later this summer.


A solid contingent of California athletes will be headed to Eugene, Oregon this week for the USATF Junior National Championship. The definition of "junior" in international competition is "under 20," so the event is open to many college freshmen. There will be many such collegiate athletes among the Golden State's representatives at Hayward Field. However, it is the amazing high school talent from our state that will stand out the most when the meet starts Thursday and progresses through Saturday.

There is no World Juniors competition this year, but the top performers at USATF Juniors could be selected to represent Team USA at the Pan-American Junior Championships in Edmonton, Canada at the end of July. Here are the current high-school stars from our state that are entered:
