Salisbury facing nation's best at adidas Dream Mile (updated)

With a field that includes recent sub four-minute miler Grant Fisher of Michigan and a number of other runners that have run in the low to mid four-minute range, Saturday's adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile has potential to be a race of historic proportions.

That's what makes it even more impressive that one of our own, La Salle Academy junior Jack Salisbury, is among those that will answer the gun for the 3:15 p.m., start inside New York's Icahn Stadium.

"It's very exciting," said the Ram standout after last week's state meet. "I am excited to see what I can do against those guys. My goal, again, is to just PR. It will be hard to do, but I think I am ready to do it."

Salisbury got the invite for Saturday's event shortly after finishing third in the elite high school race of the Prefontaine Classic last month where he ran his all-time best of 4:06.75, a two-second personal best. The La Salle standout looks comfortable and ready to roll for the Dream Mile, something he proved at last weekend's state meet where he captured the 1,500-meter run and 800m and also anchored his school's winning 4x800m relay squad, an effort that helped the Rams earn their first team title since 1978.

The adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile is one of four high school races featured in the IAAF Diamond League meet. There will also be a girls' Dream Mile and two seperate 100m races that will have some of the country's best at the starting line.
