Anna Cockrell of Providence Day High School in North Carolina rolled to a North Carolina All-Time State Record, U.S. No. 2 41.31 300mH and U.S. No. 6 13.53 100mH.

One week after the nation saw one of the greatest 100-meter hurdle battles this year between Ebony Williams and Gabriele Cunningham for the North Carolina 4A State Championship, Anna Cockrell made a solo statement at the North Carolina independent schools state championship.

The junior from Providence Day High School destroyed the state fields in both the 100mH and 300mH, bettering her own U.S. No. 6 in the former with a mark of 13.53 and cruising to a new North Carolina All-Time State Record of 41.31 in the 300mH, which stands for a new U.S. No. 2.

Watch Cockrell set the North Carolina All-Time State Record of 41.31 in the 300 hurdles. The time is the second-fastest in the nation this year.

"I think it's the race that has been the most challenging for me," Cockrell said of the 300 hurdles. "It was the race that I was on the fence the most when I came to PD and when I came to high school."

Cockrell ran U.S. No. 6 13.53 in the 100-meter hurdles.

When asked about the epic showdown that saw Ebony Williams and Gabriele Cunningham run US #2 and US #4 for the North Carolina state 100 hurdles title, Cockrell was keen on her chances.

"I think I would have won," she said. "It's hard out here to run my fastest because a lot of the time I'm a pretty good distance ahead so it's hard to keep going and push myself over those hurdles. That was a really awesome race to see."

With the high school season over, Cockrell will participate in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational and New Balance Outdoor Nationals next month.
