75th Annual Chandler Rotary Invitational (AZ)
Last year, Katie Rainsberger (Air Academy, CO) won the Mile in a Meet Record time of 4:52.83. She would go on to run 4:41 later that spring. This year, the stakes are higher in as the junior returns to defend her title versus Dani Jones (Desert Vista, AZ), who placed third in the New Balance Nationals Indoor Mile last weekend. Jones will be looking forward to the competition, as she was overlooked for a spot in the fast heat and ran a solo 4:44.9 out of the slow section. Other top competitors include Nike Cross Nationals All-American Lucy Biles (Herriman, UT), who boasts a 4:49 1,600m PR, and Foot Locker Nationals third placer Makena Morley (Bigfork, UT), who owns a 1,600m best of 4:53. Morley was the Simplot Games runner-up for Two Miles last month in 10:41.9. Jones' sister Baylee, the 3,200m champion in this event last year at 10:55.31, is also entered.
The girls will be racing a 1,600m as opposed to a full mile this year. 14 girls in the field have run faster than 5:04.
Rainsberger, Biles and Jones are also entered in the 800m to get a second crack at each other.
US #2 1:52.54 800m runner William Mayhew (Cheyenne Mountain, CO) is entered in the 3,200m, 1,600m and 800m.
Long Beach Poly (CA) could shake up the outdoor national leaderboards with their sprinters and relays.
Hometown favorite freshman Anna Foreman (Chandler, AZ) has run 55.90 this year and will look to win at her home invitational.
