Well, that didn't last long.
Lafayette's Armand Duplantis set a new national freshman class indoor track record of 16 feet, one inch for the pole vault at the LSU High School Classic on Saturday, January 10. Just one week later, the 15-year-old shattered his record in jumping 16 feet, eight inches at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada.

The mark not only bests Duplantis' own indoor record, but topples the freshmen outdoor record, as well - previously set at 16 feet, three and one quarter inches by Jayson Lavender (Witchita Falls, TX) in 1987.
"Mondo" currently sits at US #5 on the leaderboard. He placed third at the Reno event behind Hussain Alhizam of Saudi Arabia and champion Jacob Wooten of Texas, who each cleared 17 feet even.
