With the graduations of Sarah Baxter, Elise Cranny, and Tessa Barrett along with Alexa Efraimson turning pro this week, time for a new #1 high school girls distance runner in the country for the 2014 cross country. A solid pick for that top position is Staples High School (CT) rising junior Hannah Debalsi, who was a runner-up at Foot Locker Nationals last December, won the 2014 New Balance Nationals outdoor 2 mile title, and set the sophomore class national record in the two mile at the Brooks PR Invitational in 9:55. Despite the loss of some once in a generation runners and stars among last fall's distance girls superstars, this fall's crop of national class runners is even more deep and stacked than ever before.
