The two All-Americans both were heat winners with California state champ Misana Viltz of Millikan High School taking heat 2 with a 13.59 clocking and University of Kentucky freshmen Nick Anderson (competed in Florida for high school) winning heat 3 with a 13.61 performance. Both move on automatically to the semi-finals of the 110 meter hurdles.

Men's 1500m Run Prelims

Grant Fisher (MI)

Patrick Joseph (VA)

Despite running a new 1500 PR of 3:49.62, Grant Fisher was unable to move onto the next round of the 1500 meter run after finishing 9th in his prelim heat. The rising senior from Grand Blanc High School in Michigan, Fisher was running up with the top 5 of the field for first two laps (58 seconds at 400m, 2:00 at 800m) before dropping back into the back half for the last lap. He was unable to get back up in the last 400 with the top pack competing for final spots.

Virginia Tech freshmen and former Loudoun County High School (VA) distance runner Patrick Joseph was competitive in his heat of the men's 1500 prelims, but his 5th place finish was not good enough coming out of the slowest strategic heat to advance on time at 3:49.00.

Women's 800m Run Prelims

Raevyn Rogers (TX)

Sabrina Southerland (NY)

2013 World Youth bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers went out to set the pace in the first lap of her 800 prelims heat, but was clipped from behind by an Kenyan runner at 300 meters and that seemed to throw her off for the rest of the race. The incoming University of Oregon frosh Rogers tried to regain a qualifying position with 200 meters to go, but lost her placing again in the final 100 and ultimately did not advance onto the next round with her time of 2:08.01 to place 6th in her heat (#3).

Sabrina Southerland, former New York High School star and current middle distance specialist for Georgetown University, will be the lone American in the women's 800 semifinals after finishing third in her prelim heat with a time of 2:05.84 as an auto qualifier, which puts her as 9th fastest overall and a contender to make it out of the next round.

Men's 100m Dash Prelims

Trayvon Bromell (FL)

Kendal Williams (FL)

Kendal Williams was looking at his best ever in the prelims of the 100 meter dash as the recent graduate of Stanton Prep High School in Florida ran a new wind-legal personal best of 10.23 to win his heat despite easing up at the line. Williams and another Florida product in Trayvon Bromell are looking to go 1-2 for the United States in the finals, but still have the semis to go.

World junior 100 meter dash record holder Trayvon Bromell has quickly shown himself as the class of the junior men's field in the 100 meter after this first round with his 10.13 clocking from heat 6 easily putting him a full tenth of second faster than the next fastest qualifier, which happens to be USA teammate Kendal Williams. The Baylor University freshmen and NCAA champ is looking to claim another major title at Hayward Field.

Women's Javelin Throw

Rebekah Wales (LA)

Rebekah Wales finished 11th in her qualifying flight of the javlin with a best mark of 46.99m

Megan Glasmann (UT)

Megan Glasmann just missed making the finals of javelin with her best throw of day at 49.68m, which was 9th best in her qualifying round.
