Workout Video: Haney gears up for Pre Classic & adidas Dream Mile

Blake Haney, a senior at Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, California will have at least two great opportunities this outdoor season to chase after the elusive sub 4 minute barrier in the mile. His first best crack at sub 4 will be this weekend when he runs the mile against pros in the international men's field (12:33 PM PT) at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Watch his workout video (produced by Flotrack) above from earlier this outdoor season.

If he comes up short at Prefontaine Classic, the 2013 World Youth Championships 1500 meter finalist Haney can certainly go after four minutes again in the adidas Dream Mile on June 14th in New York City in a field of the nation's very best and fastest preps at the mile distance. Only five high school distance runners in US history have broken 4 minutes in the mile. A current list of accepted/invited runners as well as those in consideration for "Golden Tickets" listed in the watch lists to the adidas Dream mile and 100 can be found here.

Another 2014 adidas Dream Mile invitee in Elise Cranny from Colorado will also be running against the pros at the Prefontaine Classic in the women's 1500 race as she brings in her US #2 all-time performance of 4:10.95 into the big race. The anticipated head-to-head matchup with another high school phenom in Nike professional runner, but still high school senior in Mary Cain will not be happening as originally hoped with Cain deciding to switch this past week to run the 800 instead. Nonetheless, Cranny has an ideal situation and race to chop the time gap down between herself and the current high school 1500 meter national record holder Cain (4:04.62 high school national record time with amateur status last year).
