Garrett Corcoran of Villa Park (CA) and Haley Dorris of Great Oak (CA) both earned themselves automatic tickets to the adidas Dream Mile races in June by virtue of winning the invitational mile races at the adidas Azusa Meet of Champions on Saturday night.

Dorris led 3 other girls under 5 minutes with herself as the 4:52.54 winner (US #2 performance) followed by pre-race favorite Emma Abrahamson (4:53) of La Costa Canyon, Alicia Williams (4:56) of Corona, and Great Oak teammate Ashley Helbig (4:58) to produce 3 of the top 4 times in the country at the 1600/mile distance heading into this weekend.

Corcoran was able to pull away from a loaded and deep boys field which saw a grand total of 8 guys run 4:15 or faster in the race. Corcoran's time moves him to US #2 at the mile/1600 distance and bests his previous PR of 4:10.96 at 1600 meters with a converted time of 4:08.83 from his mile performance on Saturday night.

John Hogan was the biggest surprise in the results to pop up in second place behind Corcoran and ahead of more well known runners in the field. The senior from Lowell High School in San Francisco, Hogan had been hovering 4:20 in his most recent 1600 meter races prior to his out of nowhere 4:12.46 runner-up mile performance in the adidas Meet of Champions.

The seeded 3200 meter races were won by Blake Haney in 9:02 and Samantha Ortega in 10:45. The Stockdale senior Haney already has received an invitation to compete in the Dream Mile being the fastest returning miler in the country following a 3:44 1500 performance last year (4:02 mile equivalent), so he opted to run the 3200 at the Azusa Meet of Champions and finished with a US top 5 time in the event. Saugus junior Ortega was the top performer with a season best time (10 seconds off 2013 PR of 10:30) in a field which saw 10 girls dip under the 11 minute barrier, which left many in contention at race's end with only a 15 second final spread for the top 10 finishers. Brian Zabiliski of Saugus was able to grab second place in the boys 3200 with a big time drop for him at 9:07 after running just over 9:30 two weeks ago.

Haney more impressively came back in a short period of time to win the 800 meter run as well in a US #7 1:53.78 performance. Running away with the girls 800 victory by a margin of 4 seconds was Amber Gore of Redondo Union High School in a time of 2:11.86.
