Cheltenham girls finished 3rd in the 4x200 meter relay and set a new PA All Time state record! The team of Nicole Burke, Chanel Brisset, Ciara Leonard and Katelyn Jackson ran 1:39.00 to break the record set in 1997 of 1:39.44 by William Penn of Philadelphia!

In the morning, Ciara Leonard of Cheltenham advanced to the 60 meter hurdle finals on place, running 8.58 to qualify. Sierra Brabhim-Lawrence ran 8.69 to finish 14th. Chanel Brissett of Cheltenham finished 10th in the 60 meter dash semifinals in 7.62. Leonard came back 20 minutes later and finished 5th in the 60 meter hurdles with a PA All Time performance of 8.40! The time breaks the record set by Joyce Bates of Simon Gratz in 1996! 

Tessa Barrett of Abington Heights completed the 5000 and 2 mile national championship double! The senior waited patiently until the last lap to make her move and she broke away to the championship with a PA All-Time record of 10:08.50, and also broke her state 3000 meter record from Friday, with a US#10 AT 9:31.09 en route in the 2-mile! It was the fourth time she had re-set the state record this season.

 

Kennedy Weisner of Elk County Catholic finished 3rd in the mile run to earn her 2nd indoor All American honor in the event! The senior ran a lifetime best of 4:45.20 to improve from last year’s 6th place finish!

Cheltenham boys recovered from not making the 4x200 meter relay final by finishing 3rd in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:19.71, led by the team of Isaac Lewis, Kyle Davis, Cordell Richardson, and John Lewis!

Jeff Wiseman of Council Rock South took the 6th and final All American spot, running 1:52.61 to earn that honor!

In the morning, Dasia Pressley of Neshaminy ran 7.82 in the semifinal round. Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends ran 2:13.26 to earn PA#5 honors in the 800 meter run. Central Bucks East ran a PA#5 time of 3:57.77 in their 4x400 meter relay heat.

For the boys, Mason Weh of Upper Darby ran 8.17 and J’Von Jennings of Downingtown East ran 8.21 in their semifinal 60 meter hurdle heats. Christian Brissett of Cheltenham (6.95) and Xavier Smith of Daniel Boone (6.96) came .007 and .01 seconds respectively from making the 60 meter dash finals. Eric Cook of Conestoga ran 7.03 in his semifinal race. Ross Wilson of Council Rock North hopped into the mile as a last minute entrant and won his section with a time of 4:15.09 to finish 9th overall. Jaxson Hoey of Malvern Prep ran 4:15.79 to finish 2nd in his heat of the mile. The performances are PA#2 and PA#3 respectively.  

8th grader Gabrielle Wilkinson, running for Mt Airy Track Club, shattered the junior high girls mile meet record with a phenomenal time of 5:00.85! She had already finished 4th in the Emerging Elite 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.86 against high school competition!

Another day at the National Championships, another All-Time State Record goes down!

Central Bucks South girls made up for the state meet in a huge way, finishing 4th in the 4x800 meter relay in an PA#1 All Time performance of 9:07.08! The team of Kaitlin Poiesz (2:20.12), Brianna Stratz (2:15.70), Alexa Kwapinski (2:15.39) and Amber Stratz (2:15.39) placed themselves into the record books ahead of the previous record of 9:08.57 that was set at this meet by Strath Haven in 2011.

State College finished 6th in this event with a time of 9:14.61, a 15 second seasonal best to get the last All American ceritifcate! State College were led by Natasha Fedkina (2:18.00), Victoria Crawford (2:18.29), Kaelyn Yoder (2:22.80) and Emma Cousins (2:16.82). Their male counterparts also earned All American Honors in the 4x800 meter relay. The boys finished 4th in the 4x800 meter relay with a seasonal best performance of 7:46.81, led by Kyle Adams (1:59.17), Mason Post (1:56.66), Chris Golembeski (1:57.69) and Will Cather (1:53.29)!

Strath Haven finished 7th in the same event, just .03 seconds behind State College. This marks their 3rd top seven performance at the indoor national meet in the past four years!

Unionville made it two distance relay All American performances in 18 hours, finishing 3rd in the 4x1 mile relay in 20:40.10. The team of Gretchen Mills (5:21), Emily Fisher (5:17), Olivia Young (5:00) and Courtney Smith (5:07) made it back to back 4x1 mile All American performances!

Like Strath Haven, Pennsbury also were on the wrong end of a close finish for a medal place, finishing 7th after winning the unseeded heat in 21:11.88 led by the team of Erin O'Connell, Olivia Sargent, Hannah Molloy, and Erica Gray!

In other action, Chanel Brissett of Cheltenham and Dasia Presley of Neshaminy made it through to the 60 meter dash semifinals. Brissett shared the 17th best qualifying time, running 7.68, while Pressley ran 7.74 to finish 24th in round 1. In the 60 meter hurdles, state champion and co-state meet record holder Sierra Brabham-Lawrence of Harrisburg ran 8.62 to finish 6th in the preliminary rounds. Ciara Leonard of Cheltenham earned the 7th best qualifying performance, running 8.58 in her prelim. Cheltenham qualified for the girls 4x200 meter relay final with a time of 1:40.30, which was the 3rd best time of the prelim round. Gabbie Holmberg of Hempfield (7) finished 5th in the Freshmen 400 meter dash with a time of 58.81.

For the boys, a trio of PA sprinters advanced to the semifinals of the 60 meter dash. State champion Christian Brissett of Cheltenham shared the 8th best time of round 1 with a time of 6.91. State runner up Xavier Smith of Daniel Boone ran 6.95 to finish 14th and continue his hot streak. Eric Cook of Conestoga ran 7.09 to earn the 26th qualifying spot. In the 60 meter hurdles, Fritz Issac of North Allegheny (8.22), Mason Weh of Upper Darby (8.25) and J’Von Jennings of Downingtown East (8.25) all qualified for the semifinals. West Chester Henderson earned their 2nd All American certificate of the weekend and their 2nd 4x1 mile top six performance in a row. Henderson finished 4th in 17:31.43 and they were represented by Eric Stratman (4:24), Reiny Barchet (4:21), Kevin Moy (4:25) and Tony Russell (4:20). Tyree Ballinger of JP McCaskey cleared 6-6.25 to finish 5th in the high jump!

Tessa Barrett of Abington Heights impressed on the national stage once again, winning her 2nd national championship of her senior year! Barrett won the 5000 meter run with a national record time of 16:11.85, defeating the rest of the field by 26 seconds! The previous record was 16:18.01 from last year by Wesley Frazier of North Carolina. This is the 4th year in a row that the national record has been set at the New Balance Indoor National Championship! Barrett also broke her own PA 3000 meter record for the 3rd time this season with an en route time of 9:35.4h. 

 

Cardinal O'Hara didn't play, and crushed their own PA all-time best DMR by over ten seconds, winning the championships in 10:00.75. Splits were 3:03.83 1200m by Kevin James, 51.72 400 by Isaiah Cooper, 1:53.69 800 by Nick Smart, and a 4:11.51 mile anchor by Jim Belfatto. 

 

West Chester Henderson finished 3rd in the same race to make it a 1-3 finish for PA in a US#8 All Time 10:04.45, led by Kevin Moy (3:08.44), Steven Thompson (51.54), Eric Stratman (1:57.31) and Tony Russell (4:07.16)! In the Girls DMR, Unionville captured 6th with an 11:59.67. In the high jump, Cyre Virgo made it two All American certificates in a row, finishing 2nd this time around with a clearance of 5-8.50. Megan McCloskey of Germantown Academy also cleared 5-8.50 and received the bronze medal. The marks were seasonal bests in 2014.

Fox Chapel's Colin Martin took 5th in the Championship boys 5K in 14:49.32. His performance was better than the 2013 champion!

PA girls stole the show in the Emerging Elite Pole Vault, taking four of the top six medaling places overall! Coming away victorious was Moriah Fitzgerald of Avon Grove with a PA#3 mark of 12-00.75! Erin Smith of Camp Hill, PA cleared 11-7 to finish 2nd. Lucianne Burner of North Pocono finished 4th with a clearance of 11-7 and Tesia Kempski of Bishop McDevitt finished 6th and also cleared 11-7!

Springside Chestnut Hill took home the Emerging Elite 1600 meter Sprint Medley Relay with a US#2 time of 4:03.83 to set a new meet record! A 400 meter split of 57.00 from 400 meter state champion Brooklynn Broadwater and a 2:13.07 anchor split from Terri Turner put the Inter-Ac squad over the top. Conestoga finished 6th in the same event with a time of 4:13.28.

Aspen Gaita of Stroudsburg finished 3rd in the Emerging Elite 60 meter hurdles with a PA#6 time of 8.85. Tanise Edwards of Northeast HS finished 4th in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.50. Shannon Taub of Council Rock South also cleared 5-4.50 and finished 5th Abby Wagner of Altoona finished 3rd in the Emerging Elite triple jump with a PA#2 mark of 38-3.50. Episcopal Academy girls finished 4th in the Emerging Elite 4x400 meter relay with a PA#6 time of 3:59.41. 

PA earned a 3-4-6 finish in the Emerging Elite 800 meter run from Terri Turner of Springside and 8th grader Gabrielle Wilkinson of Philadelphia. Turner ran a PA#3 2:12.80, which is US#1 for freshmen for 2014. Wilkinson ran 2:12.86, which is PA#4 and US#1 for 8th graders! Shannon Quinn of Trinity (3) finished in 6th place with a PA#5 time of 2:14.08.

In boys action, Springside Chestnut Hill finished 5th in the Emerging Elite 1600 meter sprint medley relay. Methacton finished 7th in the Emerging Elite 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:32.16. Sam Pope of Episcopal Academy finished 2nd in the Emerging Elite triple jump with a mark of 45-7.75. State College finished 2nd in the Emerging Elite 4x400 meter relay with a PA#3 time of 3:23.13.
