XC Sessions: Kramer Morton

MileSplit - How is your fitness as you begin the 2013 season. What excites you most about the coming year of HS XC?

Kramer - It has been great! This is probably the best I’ve ever felt for cross! Definitely how our team has been we’re not the best but we have a great group of boys that just love to run and we actually have done pretty good this year.

MileSplit - After a 16th place finish at Foot Locker last year and a solid spring what expectations do you have for your senior year?

Kramer - I just want to build off of last year and try and make it my best season yet!

MileSplit - When & how did you get started in cross country?

Kramer - I got started when I was about 10 years old. I never ran competitively until middle school but I have loved running my whole life!

MileSplit - Person/people most influential to your success in cross country and why?

Kramer - All of the Utah Coaches such as Jordan high school, Copper Hills and so many more that have been huge role models for me and have been so kind to me. But definitely the most is Coach Murphy! He has always been such a positive influence on me and my running and is one of my best friends. He always knows what’s best for me and I trust him with any of my training. My parents are also great influences along with my oldest brother Keaton and my Uncle Barney they never miss a meet and always cheer me on. I love them a lot!

MileSplit - Who has influenced you the most so far in your life and what they mean to you and your success?

Kramer - Definitely my parents they are the greatest role models in my life. I love them so much they mean the world to me. They always are right and support me in everything that I do. They’re the best!

MileSplit - What are the keys to your successful cross country training program and what work did you put in to start off so well this year?

Kramer - Well definitely the biggest key for me is getting the mental game I need to run my hardest no matter what the conditions. My Coach helps me a lot with that he knows how to prepare you mentally for a race.

MileSplit - Your favorite past performance in a cross country race and why?

Kramer - My favorite was probably winning the region championship with my team my sophomore year. It was my first high school win ever as an individual but even more it was my first ever team win ever and even though to most people it doesn’t seem that big…but to us it meant the world. Our team wasn’t incredibly talented we just worked really hard and wanted it bad enough.

MileSplit - Who are the cross country competitors you most enjoy competing against and why?

Kramer - Ahh I love competing with everyone in Utah. All the runners in Utah are amazing kids and so incredible but I would have to say that some of my favorites are Rory Linkletter, Andrew Brewer, Conner Mcmillan, Zach Jacklin, Clayson Shumway, and of course Conner Mantz we have a ton of fun racing each other.

MileSplit - What is your greatest non-running experience in cross country so far and why?

Kramer - I loved going to Foot Locker West regionals and driving up with the Herriman high school team. I became great friends with Rory Linkletter, Connor Jones, and Chuk Mitchell from just the drive up! They have a really neat team over there.

MileSplit - What are your goals for the 2013 cross country season?

Kramer - I would like to win state again this year, break the State Record and make it into the top 4 at Foot Locker Nationals and possibly win.

MileSplit - Do you have any long-term goals in running?

Kramer - I definitely want to run on a collegiate level and possibly go to the Olympics if things worked out right but I just would like to run on a high level and enjoy it for the rest of my life.

MileSplit - What was your favorite performance from the 2013 World Champs?

Kramer - Definitely Nick Symmonds performance in the 800 meter run. I also loved seeing Mo take the win in the 10,000 as well.
