Year of Graduation?  2014

School?  Monticello HS, Monticello, IA

How long have you been running, and how did you get started?  When I was in about 3rd or 4th grade I did some AAU track meets running sprinting events only.  I got started because my high school track coach used to tell me I was going to be a miler, and everyday at 5th and 6th grade football practice he called me Mike the Miler.

Who’s been the greatest inspiration to you in your running career?  Definitely my dad.  He has always gotten me everything I've needed, and takes me to whatever races or camps I want to be in.  He always pushes me; and he is not the dad that is going to tell me "good race" unless I win.

Cross country coach(es)?  Our head cross country coach is Dan Sauser; our assistants are Mike Lambert, Bruce Novak, and Miss Lynn.

Key(s) to your training program?  Build a solid base in the summer; then during the season go hard on hard days and take it easy on the easy days; don't overdue it.

Goals for the upcoming season?  I want to be a state champion in class 2A, and break our school record.

Running goals beyond HS?   I want to run at the collegiate level.

Favorite cross country meet?  The state meet; the atmosphere is amazing!  Nothing beats it!

Favorite competitors in cross country?  Thomas Pollard, and the flock from Monticello.

Favorite cross country memory?  Winning state my sophomore year.  It was the first time I had won a state title.  The Monticello fans really made that day amazing coming out and supporting us.

Favorite academic subject?  Pre-Calculus.  My coach is my teacher, so I can learn math and ask him questions about workouts too.

Favorite activity besides running?  I like to play low hoop basketball and participate in fantasy football.

Favorite quote?  "Champions are made when no one is watching."
