This spring wasn't just about hitting results on the track.
It was about determining what kind of potential distance teams have in the tank for the coming cross country season.
While it's not perfect science, a great indicator for distance talent is what programs have done in the 3200m. Which squads have the most depth returning in 2019?
It shouldn't surprise you with what teams show up in the rankings. NXN boys winner Loudoun Valley (VA) returns the most depth, while Dana Hills (CA), Great Oak (CA), Ann Arbor Pioneer (MI) and Bolles (FL) are in the picture, too. Every team has traditionally been strong at the national level.
On the girls side, Great Oak (CA) shouldn't be a surprise. But can Granada (CA), Claremont (CA), North Central (WA) and Pine Crest (FL) continue on with great success in 2019? A team not on this list? Perennial force Fayetteville-Manlius won't be found here.
The New York squad, which won NXN for the 11th time in 12 years in 2018, tends to have more national success -- in terms of volume -- on the grass than on the track.
