When looking at the top combined shot put and discus throwers in the country, an elite-level standard checks in roughly at 250 feet and the super-elite level is over 260.
Only 14 throwers in the country have combined for throws over 250 feet, while just six have combined for heaves over 260, including the top overall athlete, Moore (OK) senior Patrick Larrison, who's chucked a US No. 1 discus of 210-9 and shot put of 66-3.5 for a haul of 277-0.5.
Interestingly enough, the No. 14 athlete on the list, Ridgefield (WA) sophomore Trey Knight, is probably the most versatile thrower in the nation. While he's combined for a total of 250-10.75 in the shot put and discus, he's the top overall hammer thrower in the country with a heave of 216-5.25 and he leads all combined shot put and hammer throwers -- a much, much smaller list overall.
