* Brandon Williams currently has the second fastest 800m time of the 2018 indoor season
We're hitting a critical juncture in the indoor season for 800 meter runners.
Typically, the middle of February has been a time when most mid-distance standouts have begun to hit their stride. A year ago, Oak Park (MI) High graduate Cameron Cooper scored the first of two sub-1:50 efforts at the University of Kentucky High School Indoor Invitational.
Chantilly (VA) High graduate Brandon McGorty hit a great starter time in a North Carolina meet before cutting a second at New Balance Nationals a month later.
Last year also signaled a slight advancement at the distance than in previous years, with the top three times being at least a second clear of the top five efforts in 2016.
So far, we've tracked vastly behind the past three years in time differential, with all five current best efforts accounting for the five slowest times when compared to all 20 top five performances since 2015.
So this weekend could change that factor significantly.
Check out the top 500 times in the 800m this indoor season and the top 100 efforts in February and March over the past three seasons prior to 2018.
