34th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Northeast Regional Returns to Van Cortlandt Park
 



BRONX, N.Y., September 12, 2012 - Foot Locker announced today that the 34th Annual Foot Locker Cross County Championships Northeast Regional race will return to Van Cortlandt Park (251st Street and Broadway) in Bronx, N.Y., after relocating for three years.  Van Cortlandt Park was the home of the Northeast Regional from the race’s inception in 1979 until 2009, when the park underwent construction.

“We are thrilled to return ‘home’ to Van Cortlandt Park, where it all started,” said Jeanine Zocks, vice president of strategic alliance and events.  “Thousands of runners began their cross-country careers with us at Van Cortlandt, including Olympic medalist, Shalane Flanagan, American 5,000m record holder, Molly Huddle, and most recently, Olympian Donn Cabral. We look forward to hosting this year’s Foot Locker Cross Country Championships there once again.”

Thousands of the nation’s top runners are expected to compete in the 34th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.  The series consists of four regional 5K races across the country. The Northeast Regional (Bronx, N.Y.), South Regional (Charlotte, N.C.) and Midwest Regional (Kenosha, Wis.) will be held Nov. 24.  The West Regional (Walnut, Calif.) will take place on Saturday, Dec.1.  

The top ten boys and the top ten girls in the seeded races will qualify to compete against runners from the South, Midwest and West Regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
