Best times in a 5K and 3 Mile race?

My best 5K time is 17:31 and I ran it at our local league meet called the Loopy Lincoln

Tell us how your training is going?

My summer training has been great! There has been quite few kids coming out to some fun runs which has been a ton of fun. Since I had a longer track season, I have spent most of the summer relaxing and haven’t been running too much. I’m so excited to be back training though, and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season!

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

For this season, I would really like to focus on staying healthy and fit. I would love to be able to break 17:30 sometime this year and I would be very excited if I can compete at nationals again.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I have been running for 5 years now. I started running in 6th grade at my middle school. We were required to take a sport, and there were only three options. First was soccer, and since I had never played before I thought that it might not be the best idea. The second was variety games, which at the time I had no clue what you did in that class. And lastly, was cross country. I had never really heard anything about cross country before and only a little about track. But I remember that I didn’t ever mind running the mile in elementary school, so I gave it a try and I loved it!

Will you be competing out of state this season?

I will be competing around three times out of state this season. My team is going to Oregon for the Nike Pre Nationals, and then Oregon once more hopefully for Borderclash. After the High School season is done, I’m planning on going to either Nike or Foot Locker regionals to try to qualify for nationals. And if I make it, then I would compete one last time either in Oregon or California.

Favorite course to run in Washington?

I think my favorite course to run is the Tomahawk Twilight Invitational. The race is run at night and on a golf course. The course is a little hilly but pretty fast because the course is really nice and you never have to worry about your footing because they bring in a bunch of huge flood lights that go all along the course. The race is so much fun because people are racing with glow sticks, you get to run through big balloon arches and there are usually a lot of schools competing!

Toughest course in Washington?

I think one of the toughest course my team runs is the Tahoma Relay’s course. Every school builds teams of five kids, and every person runs a 3K. The first ¾ of the race is pretty much all up hill on small paths, and then the last ¼ of the race turns into a straight downhill. As soon as you think you would be done running, you have to run straight into a small lake. You have to run about 50 meters about waist deep in water! It might not sound too hard, but once you hit the water, you feel as if you can’t move. And the worse part about it is that when you are finished with the water, you still have to get out and run about 300 meters. It might be one of the toughest courses, but the whole race is great, and I love being able to cheer my teammates on after I finish my leg of the relay.

Favorite Cross Country race so far in your high school career?

I don’t know if I can choose just one race as my favorite! I have loved going to tons of meets and sad that this is my last year to race them. Some of my favorites have been running both years at Foot Locker Nationals. The atmosphere of the whole trip is amazing! When you are there, everyone is treated like star athletes and I have made friends there that I will probably be friends with for the rest of my life. The course is great, and going to California to run in the middle of winter is also a plus!

Favorite Cross Country memory?

I think my favorite cross country memories are all the times I spend with my team. My school’s cross country team is not that big, but we are all close! I love going to practice with them and my greatest memories are the annual camping trip we take. It is only for one night, but we fit in a whole bunch of great things.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?

I think my favorite thing to do when I’m not running is just hanging out with my friends and family. There is usually always something fun or new to do in Seattle.

Best times in a 5K and 3 Mile race?

5k- 17:56 (Kingco 4A Championships)

Tell us how your training is going?

My summer training is good. I've been doing mostly tempo runs, which are my favorite.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Of course, I would really like to PR. I also want to try and place higher at the state meet than I did last year. And, if I qualify for Border Clash again, I would like to place higher there than I did last year.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

In elementary school we had a little cross country program that consisted of about three races that were each a half mile long. All of my friends and I were a part of that, and it was really fun. I did pretty well, so I decided to run track and cross country in junior high. I also ran for a kids running club outside of the school for a couple of years in junior high, which was fun. Soccer was always my main sport, though.

Will you be competing out of state this season?

I think I am going to go down to the Foot Locker West Regional again in December. Also, I will hopefully run in Border Clash in Oregon.

Favorite course to run in Washington?

I like the Tomahawk Twilight course in Marysville. The course is all lit up, and we get to run in the dark.

Toughest course in Washington?

The South Whidbey course has a pretty steep hill, which is tough. Also, I think last year there was a muddy patch, so it was hard to keep your footing.

Favorite Cross Country race so far in your high school career?

My favorite race was the Kingco meet last year because I broke 18 minutes.

Favorite Cross Country memory?

I don't really have one specific memory that I can think of at the moment. One of the captains brought the BEST cookies to every meet, though, and I always loved pigging out on those after every race.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?

I like to paint. It’s really relaxing.

3 mile: 17:19.35 at the big 9/gsl 3a regional meet

5k: 17:34.0 at the nike NW regional meet

Tell us how your training is going?

Great! It’s nice to get to step back from racing and get down to some straight-up running. I love running and the process of getting back into good shape over the summer is a treat.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

My goals for this season are to continue to progress as a runner and competitor, and, as always, to continue to enjoy running. I also hope to do well in both state and national level competitions.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I didn’t start seriously training until the summer before freshman year. Before that I just did standard middle school track and xc. I have always been involved in the running community in Spokane because of my dad’s coaching, but I wasn’t a serious child runner. I always knew that I would want to be a distance runner!

Will you be competing out of state this season?

I will be running at the Bob Firman invitational in Idaho, and then Nike NW later in the season, after that, I will have to see how the season goes

Favorite course to run in Washington?

Both Audubon Park (my home course and the Tracy Walter’s course) and Wandemere Golf Course are some of my favorites. My absolute favorite is the Eagle Island course (Bob Firman and Nike NW)

Toughest course in Washington?

Many of the courses have tough bits that make them each hard. I mean, that’s what a xc course is supposed to be right? It’s a cross country course because it’s tough. That’s part of what I love about cross country, each course poses different challenges and you have to learn how to use those challenges to your advantage.

Favorite Cross Country race so far in your high school career?

I think my favorite so far has to be Nike Cross NW regionals in 2010. That race was the first one where I thought, “Wow. I really can do this.” It was icing on the cake to break the course/meet record there as well.

Favorite Cross Country memory?

Going on trips with the team, both the boy’s and girl’s team. One of my favorite meets and memories are Borderclash. It is so much fun to race in a team with all the ladies from Washington. That meet is just a blast.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?

Spending time with family and friends.

I don't like the word "goals" but if I had some they would be to become the state and Borderclash champion and top 5 at NXN.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

This will be my fifth year of running. I started in middle school because my brother, Kenny, was fast and enjoyed it so I thought I'd have the same success. I didn't actually have and success until my sophomore year, though.

Will you be competing out of state this season?

Yes! In Portland, Oregon for Nike Pre-Nationals, Borderclash, and NXN and Idaho for NXN Regional.
