Winders, Renfree Battle at Hoka Knoxville

The Hoka Super Local time trial in Knoxville did not disappoint on Friday night.

As a tuneup for Foot Locker, Silas Winders and Jake Renfree battled for an excellent finish at Hardin Valley Academy. At the line, it was Winders who came up with the win.

The Henry County junior finished in 9:01. That's the fastest time in the country this year for 3200 meters in the fall. Winders closed in 65, giving him a two second cushion against the Knoxville Catholic senior Renfree. His time was 9:03, the second-fastest in America for 3200 this fall.

Lots of runners ran new personal best times for 3200 meters as they gear up for postseason competitions this weekend. Landri Wilcox (Cookeville) won the girls race in 10:40.

3200 time trials in November are an excellent way to jumpstart your track season as well. If you don't quite run what you expect to the previous May, you could be coming into the next track season with expectations that are far too low. Mentally, it's beneficial to break that barrier and raise the expectations in the fall.

When it's time to race in March, these athletes will all have a leg up.
