A Tight Battle To The Line At Memphis Twilight
- - -
Davis Bove picked up quite the confidence-boosting win on Saturday.
The Centennial (TN) High School senior won the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in 15:24.91, setting a new personal record on a course he finished third on a season ago. He was speed rated with an impressive 186.
That time also represented a 24-second improvement, and it came against a talented field that included runner-up Will Stone of Homewood (AL) and Silas Winders of Henry County (TN).
It wasn't all surprising, though. Bove was coming off one of his best track seasons to date, where he produced times of 54.41/1:57.91/4:14.55 in the 400m, 800m and 1600m.
This could be the season where Bove puts it all together for a state title.
In beating Winders, he topped the state's runner-up at state a year ago, though it won't be easy down the stretch. The state returns eight other returners who finished ahead of Bove at the large school state championships in 2017.
At the very least, this is a very good start.

The girls race at Brooks Twilight featured what's sure to be Tennessee's top freshman of 2018.
Henry County's Dinah Winders won her first race of the fall, producing a winning time of 18:38.41 and speed rating of 122 to cut four seconds off from her opener just a week ago at the Voyles Classic.
While the girls field didn't have the depth of the boys, Winders did show her resolve against a mostly top pack of seniors. She outpaced runner-up Breja Hooks of Oakland (TN) and Skylar Boogerd of Arlington (TN).
