The Scoop: A Massive Weekend Of XC Action

Great Oak Gets Off To Solid Start At Seaside

- - -

It was all Great Oak on Friday at the Seaside Invitational.

The Wolfpack held out a few of their top runners on the girls front, instead featuring its fair share of athletes looking to make inroads on the starting seven. Head coach Doug Soles decided to rest Tori Gaitan and Fatima Cortes, the program's No. 1 and No. 2.

As a result, Great Oak's No. 3, Arianna Griffith, ran the fastest overall time on the 3-mile course, registering an effort of 17:01.10 and a speed rating of 133. That time marked a 37-second improvement from last year's top performance at the distance and approximately 1:34 improvement from her best time on this course in 2016.

The next fastest girl at the meet, Harvard Westlake's Natalia Quintero, ran 17:50.80.

The boys field, meanwhile, featured its top unit, and Great Oak's top six runners went under 15:15, including two under 15 minutes. That list included: Tyler Tickner (14:46.50), Gabriel Abbes (14:51.40), Ryan Shields (15:08.40), Cameron Hylton (15:08.90), Noah Nevens (15:11.90) and Chris Verdugo (15:13.60).

All six athletes were speed rated at 166 or higher, with Tickner grabbing a 176 and Abbes registering a 174.
