Salute To Seniors: Austin Keim (Wyomissing)

Today we salute Alex Keim of Wyomissing Area.

Keim played a pivotal role on some strong Wyomissing squads during his career. Keim finished his career with an open PR of 51.44 in the 400 meters. He was apart of Wyomissing's winning 4x400-meter relay squad as a junior. That team went 3:21.49 for the win. This past spring, Wyomissing was a narrow second place in the event, running 3:19.59 with Keim provided a sub-50 split.

Keim answered some questions for PennTrackXC, reflecting on his high school career.

Throughout the end of June and through July we we be honoring our graduating seniors. To submit your own questionnaire to be posted on the front page of PennTrackXC, check out this page and email your responses to Dan Beck (daniel.beck@flosports.tv).

------------

What was your most memorable race/competition?

My most memorable race was this year running in the state 4x4 and running a 3:19.54.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

Post season was our biggest competition because we had schuylkill valley counties, districts, and states.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?

I pulled my hamstring this year and ended up running a 49.9 in my last race so this years 4x400 relay.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?

I wouldn't change anything because I ended running my fastest time.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I had to get my hamstring to heal before post season to help my team which was very difficult.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the jokes with the boys like joe Cullen, and Ryan cargo. Also just the nice people you get to meet before races when everyone is nervous to run.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
4 years might seem like a long time but it goes by very fast so don't think you can get away skipping workouts because it adds up.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?

My coaches taught me the value of owning up to my mistakes and to make no excuses for what you do.

What are your post-high school plans?

I will be attending racc for informational technology.

Any shoutouts?

I got a shoutout for Joe Cullen because he is a beast. Shoutout to my brother Austin Keim and shoutout to Dan Ouilikon next 49 runner on the rise.
