Early in the season, we caught up with Zachery Bradford of Bloomington, Illinois. Bradford was still working indoors and was fresh off his 2018 New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship in the pole vault. Bradford vaulted 18 feet, 0.5 inches and is one of only three US high schoolers to vault over 18 feet indoors. This outdoor season he tied for second at Texas Relays vaulting 17-2 with Lee's Summit High School's (MO) KC Lightfoot. He was the IHSA Boys State Track & Field State Champion with a vault of 17-6. His best vault of the season came at the 3A Belleville West Sectional when he vaulted 17-9.
This weekend he is entered in the USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Bloomington, Indiana. This will be one of his last shots to clear 18 feet outdoors before heading off to the University of Kansas in the fall. Check out his workout above.
