MISSION VIEJO -- The two-day Trabuco Hills Invitational produced four CA No. 1 marks, five No. 2s and 27 top-10s.

We saw the spring season debut of Cristian Moore (Oaks Christian) in the 100m, blistering performances from CA-ranked standouts Ariyonna Augustine (Long Beach Poly), Justin Hazell (El Camino Real), Caleb Roberson (Upland), Jada Hicks (Upland), Micah Fulton (Muir), Jonon Young (Carson), Carlos Aviles (Ventura), Maliyah Medley (El Toro) and Faimalie Sale (Los Alamitos). And defending CIF-State high jump champion and current national high jump leader Sean Lee was among those establishing meet records.

Lee, the UCLA-bound senior from Trabuco Hills, hit his U.S.-leading PR of 7 feet, 3 inches a month before, also on his home track. On Saturday, he cleared 7-2 on his third attempt and made three jumps at 7-4. He said his objective was clear 7-4 and then go up anther 3/4-inch and attempt to set a CA record. That will have to wait. Lee said he will take a few weeks off an only train in preparation of his next competition, the Mt. SAC Invitational at El Camino College in Torrance on April 21.

Moore, a junior from Oaks Christian who was 2nd in the 2017 CIF-State final in the 200m and 5th in the 100m, said he was injured during winter track and is just now starting his spring season. Aided by a 2.4 meters-per-second wind, Moore clocked an all-conditions CA-leading 10.56, holding off determined Trabuco Hills junior Jake Burns (10.65).

Augustine, the defending State Meet champion in the 100m and the 200m, put in a full day, competing in the 200 (23.73/2.3, CA No. 1), 4x100 relay (46.94) and 4x400 relay (3:51.40). She was most impressive in the 200, pulling away early and never challenged with El Toro senior Maliyah Medley second (24.42, CA No. 5) and Upland senior Jada Hicks third (24.74).

Among the many other standouts:
  • Upland junior Caleb Roberson won the 110 hurdles (14.51/0.7 PR) and 300 hurdles (38.22, CA No. 2) and was 3rd in the 100m (10.94/2.4). (Note that Roberson was 5th in the long jump at State last June as a sophomore. He's only competed in that event once so far this season.)
  • Ventura junior Carlos Aviles was a double winner with PRs in both the shot put (63-5.50; CA No. 1) and discus throw (188-10, CA No. 2). He was 8th in the DT at State last year as a soph. He now ranks 6th in the U.S. in the shot and 8th nationally in the discus.
  • Arizona-bound thrower Faimalie Sale of Los Alamitos went 46-2 in the shot to move up to No. 2 in CA. She was 2nd at State last June and has a PR of 46-11.75 from last spring's CIF-SS Masters Meet.
  • Pasadena Muir senior Micah Fulton won the triple jump (41-2), was 3rd in the 300 hurdles (45.57) and tied for 5th in the long (18-6.50). Fulton was 4th in the TJ and 8th in the LJ at State.
  • Carson senior Jonon Young won the long jump (18-1) and was second in the triple jump with a 40-7 PR. She went to State last June in both events and reached the final in the long jump, placing 9th.
  • Varsity meet records: Justin Hazell 3200m (9:09.64), Jada Hicks 100H (14.18), Micah Fulton TJ (41-2), Sean Lee HJ (7-2),
