MITS Madness In Michigan
It was all about the relays at the Michigan indoor state championships at Saginaw Valley State University this weekend.
From a national perspective, some of the state's best performances came via team performances in some very big races -- some clubs, however, were athletes combined of several different schools.
Prime Time Performance, a team comprised of runners from a variety of high schools in Michigan, tore across the track in the 4x800 in a US No. 4 effort of 7:51.77. That included Parker Raymond, Joshua Momeyer, Noah Fuerst and Nicholas Couyoumjian.
Oak Park High's track club, however, had an even bigger day (and the squads can ultimately compete at New Balance Nationals Indoor together), rounding up a double in the boys and girls 4x400, the girls and boys 400m, the girls 4x200 and the girls 4x200.
The boys 4x400 squad, which ran a US No. 4 time of 3:19.20, was led by the team of Jacob Williams, Jason Flake, Javonne Kirksey and Donnie James. The girls, who also went a new US No. 4 effort, went 3:48.80 behind the legs of Miyah Brooks, Jada Roundtree, Chloe Vines and Dorriann Coleman.
James soloed a US No. 4 time of 47.38 in the 400m -- out kicking James Flournoy to the line by four hundredths of a second -- while Miyah Brooks and Jada Roundtree went 1-2 in the girls 400m.
Motor City also went US No. 2 in the girls 4x200 in 1:38.12.
