3. Matthew Carmody, Dowling Catholic (IA)
Carmody has been posting incredible times this season and is one of the most consistent runners competing with a shot at NXN on the line. But he's also motivated, having finished second at his state and Dowling Catholic taking a third-place bid as a team.
He's run all but one of his performances under 15:48 this season, with most closer to 15:20, though he finished second in his state meet two weeks ago.
To list some of his accomplishments, Carmody took second at the Roy Griak Invitational, which was a huge improvement from his 2016 finish. Carmody has beat his PR four times this season, and, given the nature of the NXR Heartland's course and the competition, it's likely he will post another PR given the right conditions. Look for a top-five finish from Carmody, a product of one of Iowa's powerhouses.
