Heather Holt Commits To North Carolina State Program

George C. Marshall High senior Heather Holt, a nine-time state champion in Virginia, made her college decision on Tuesday, committing to North Carolina State University.

The top distance runner, who finished 27th at Foot Locker Nationals in 2016 and opened her senior campaign on Sept. 9 at the Monroe Parker Invitational with a 17:57.00, is a dominant distance runner and versatile athlete on the track.

She hit her season PB at the 5K distance in 2016, going 16:56 at the Pacers Running DCXC Invitational, then cruised through the Virginia season, winning her second Virginia High School League Cross Country title and later qualifying for Foot Locker Nationals.

Holt's talent extends to the track, too, where in June she won her second straight title in the 800m in 2:13.98 and has PB'ed 2:11.30 for the distance.

She's won a state indoor title in the 1000m (2:57.81), has gone a PB of 4:52.42 for the full mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor and posted a best of 10:46.29 indoors in the 2-mile.

Over the outdoor season, she's won two straight championships in the 1600m, producing a best of 4:54.28 and has gone 10:42.13 for 3200m. Holt has also split a 57-second 400m.
