USA Sets New World Junior Record In 4x400 Relay At Pan American Junior Championships


Capping off an extremely successful three days in Peru, the American men's 4x400 relay team of Josephus Lyles, Zachary Shinnick, Brian Herron and Sean Hooper set a new World and American Junior Record at the Pan American Junior Championships on Sunday with a time of 3:00.33. 

The team eclipsed the former record of 3:01.09, which was set in 2004 and held by Brandon Johnson, LaShawn Merritt, Jason Craig and Kerron Clement. 

Hooper (far right), who finished third in the 400m at the USA Junior Championships in 45.86 seconds to qualify for the relay, is a recent graduate of Keller Fossil Ridge (Tx.) High and a Texas Tech University signee. Damien (Ca.) High graduate Zachary Shinnick (second from right) won the USA Junior Championships in a nation-leading 45.20 seconds and is headed to the University of Southern California. 

Herron (second from left) is a rising junior with Dekalb Lakeside (Ga.) High and finished fourth at USA Juniors in 46.07. Lyles (left), a professional with adidas, was second at USA Juniors in 45.74.
