NCISAA Coaches Association's Athletes & Coaches Of The Year Announced!




The NCISAA Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association is pleased to announce that the following athletes and coaches have been chosen to receive awards for their outstanding performance, leaderships and contributions during the 2017 Track and Field Season:

2017 NCISAATFCCCA Track and Field Athletes of the Year:

1A Female: Jurnee Coleman, Victory Christian Center School

As a freshman Coleman won the NCISAA 1A/2A Long Jump in 16-8, 100m Hurdles in 16.85 (15.73 in the prelims) and took 2nd in the 300m Hurdles running a PR of 48.66!


1A Male: Quinn Schneider, Woodlawn School

Capping off an incredible career at Woodlawn School Schneider completed the distance triple at the NCISAA 1A/2A State Championships running 9:50.64 for the 3200, 4:35.80 for 1600 and ending the meet with a 1:59.92 in the 800, which was a PR at the time.  Schneider set a new PR the next weekend running 1:57.21.  Schneider certainly will go down as one of the greatest NCISAA 1A distance runners of all time!


2A Female: Halei Gillis, Carolina Day School

Senior ended her high school career winning her third straight discus title and first ever shot put title at the NCISAA 1A/2A State Championships!  She had fallen just short in the shot put the last two years taking 2nd.  Gillis threw 37-2 in the Shot Put and a PR in the discus of 127-5!


2A Male: Douglas McKinney, Coastal Christian

Coastal Christian senior Douglas McKinney defending his High Jump title in 6-0, Triple Jump in a PR of 44-4.25, 110m Hurdles in 15.09, also a PR and 300m Hurdles in a PR of 40.84!  Certainly performing at his best when it mattered at the NCISAA 1A/2A Outdoor State Championships.  McKinney went from having 2 state titles to his name to ending his high school career with 6 in dominating fashion in his senior year!


3A Female: Sarah Bodmer, Cary Academy

Sarah Bodmer has won many state titles over her high school career, but she has never won two individual events at the NCISAA 3A State Championships.  On Friday Bodmer lead her Cary Academy teammates to a NC#1 4x800 time and state championships in 9:25.92, winning by 35 seconds!  Bodmer doubled back to defend her 3200 title in 11:03.50.  She came back on Saturday to win the 1600 over teammate Olivia Frazier running 5:00.90, a 5 second PR and good for NC#4.  Bodmer ran her fourth event of the day to score 8th place in the 800 in 2:27.78.  Bodmer goes leaves the NCISAA with 3 3200 state titles, 3 cross country state titles and 1 1600 state title as she heads off to the Air Force Academy to continue her running career.


3A Male: DeMarkes Stradford, Charlotte Latin School

Stradford proved himself as one of the best NCISAA sprinters of all time this season after defending his 100m Dash title running a PR of 10.65, good for NC#7 this season.  He also took home the 200 title in 22.09, just off his PR of 21.74.  Stradford is only a junior and will be on of the best sprinters in North Carolina heading into next outdoor season.

1A: Dwayne Bowman, Woodlawn School

2A: Dave Calvert, CFA Academy

3A: Ben Hovis, Providence Day School
