A Salute to Hunter The Hooligan

How did you get started as a track or cross country athlete?

A friend invited me to a cross country captains practice in 8th grade, and haven't missed a day since.

What was your most memorable competition?

The 2012 Falcon Ridge Meet because it rained that day at some time and the finish line was a mud reddened mess and I "tripped" across the finish line (when in reality, I crossed the finish line and went into a mud slip-n-slide). Another one of my favorite moments from running is starting a "JV" chant with all the racers at the Milaca Mega Meet.

Who was your biggest competitor in your XC career?

I was always trying to compete with my friend Scott Burazin, even though he has always been out of my league.

What was your greatest accomplishment as a XC athlete?

Making spontaneous friends from random schools, and ultimately becoming a captain.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your XC high school?

Honestly, just try just a wee bit harder.

How have your coaches been an influence to you as an athlete and a person?

They helped keep practice fun every day, so practice wasn't a "forced" practice. Every day I wanted to be there.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Bad habits, and just being unlucky. I've been spiked twice, I got pushed off a bridge and got my shorts pulled down during race.

What will you miss the most about high school XC?

The people. Everyone was friends with one another despite school rivalries and such.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Try your best while having fun. Sports weren't made to be a chore, they were made to have fun.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I will be attending the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

Every competitor, from fellow peers to other teams' coaches. Everyone cheered for one another and pushed each other. You guys made the best competitive atmosphere anyone could ask for.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Hooligans Whoorah!
