Loudoun Valley has quickly made a name for itself both with talent and coaching. That name has paid off now as military families start actively choosing their district as a future home. This was exactly the case when Sam Affolder's father received and took a new position at the Pentagon.

Though this move might be big, it is not the family's first rodeo when it comes to big transfers. Just a couple years ago Sam's older brother Noah transferred to Carlisle (PA) after already being a state champion in NY. That move produced a national record, state championships, and even two Foot Locker Nationals bids for the brothers. That's right, Sam Affolder has already run at Foot Locker Nationals as a sophomore!
The transfer of Sam who is a 4:09 indoor miler, 51 second 400m runner, and a 15:17 5K runner means Loudoun Valley just got exactly what they needed. Just remember though that these times are only thru his sophomore indoor season and could be even faster come next year.
For both Sam and Loudoun Valley this news is great. It is no small secret that LV coaches Marc & Joan Hunter know exactly what they are doing when it comes to training. They are all about the kids and are extremely talented coaches. That for sure helped draw a big name transfer to their school and before anyone gets up in a rage, we know for certain that the Hunters did not in any way recruit Sam Affolder to their program.
As a team though this is going to be a huge move for the Vikings. Starting in XC things are going to get fast. This move now means Loudoun Valley enters the season with the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th, and 10th ranked guy in 4A. Their team average just entering the season is 15:32 which is right on pace to be as fast as any team in the nation. In sum, this Loudoun Valley squad should score no more than 20 points at states and has a serious shot at a NXN team title.
Track wise, Loudoun Valley's DMR team could seriously chase down that 9:56 DMR National record that Sam was a part of this indoor season. The logical order would likely be Peter Morris running the 1200, Akere Sims running the 400, Colton Bogucki running the 800, and Sam Affolder running the 1600 anchor. Our estimated splits are (over a year ahead): 3:03, 48, 1:52, and 4:02. That time would total 9:45 and a national & state record breaking South Lakes' record from Alan Webb's days.
Though all of this is a long ways away, it is certainly a good day for the Loudoun Valley Vikings knowing that their spot on top is here to stay for another two years.
