Big Ideas From Ato Boldon on Track and Field's Future For The Next Generation of Fans

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Ato Boldon has ideas on the subject.

MileSplit caught up with the former Trinidad & Tobago Olympic medalist, track and field analyst and coach for Born To Do It Track Club in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday as they prep for the 2017 CARIFTA Games.

How can track and field innovate for the next generation of fans coming to the sport?

QHow do you think track and field can innovate? Where do you think it can change in the next 10 years? Do you think we're getting enough from a brand aspect, or do you think we can do a little bit more?

Below is part of Bolton's answer on the subject.

A: If you have a bunch of 60 and 70 and 80 year olds who are holding on to p power and they think the sport should look a certain way, but you have an audience that's 15, 25, 35, we're going to have a problem. I feel like some of the steps track and field has taken in the last couple years are the right steps. Look at what an NBA game looks like now compared to 25 years ago. So don't tell me that because, 'Oh, we have to keep track and field pure.' Pure of what? I believe we too need to jazz it up a little bit.
