2017 Ohio Indoor Weight Throw Report

           Jacob Wickey of Medina High School is the #1 ranked Weight Throw athlete in the country. 


Ohio Weight Throw athletes continued to demonstrate their dominance on the national scene at the recent New Balance Nationals Indoor meet in New York City. Throwers representing The Buckeye State claimed the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th positions in the final standings at the prestigious NBN, which gathers together the best track and field athletes from throughout the country.  In addition to having 4 throwers among the top 7 in New York, the state of Ohio can also claim 4 of the top 5 athletes in the 2017 national indoor rankings. Below are a list of these athletes with their NBN result, their season's best throw and their final 2017 U.S. indoor ranking included:   


Jacob Wickey - Medina High School

NBN result - 1st place - 79-06.75

Season's best - 79-06.75 (New Balance Nationals Indoor)

U.S. ranking - #1 


           Jacob Wickey won the Weight Throw event at NBN against a stacked field of throwers. 


           Jacob Wickey will be competing for Kent State University next year. 


Brent Fairbanks - Austintown Fitch High School

NBN result - 3rd place - 75-02.50

Season's best - 75-6 (Akron Jerome Fields Meet HS Open)

U.S. ranking - #3 


           Brent Fairbanks of Austintown Fitch is ranked 2nd in the Weight Throw in Ohio. 


           Brent Fairbanks finished 3rd in the Weight Throw event at NBN in New York City. 


Nick Lane - Bowling Green High School

NBN result - 4th place - 74-00.75

Season's best - 74-8 (Dave Wottle High School Open)

U.S. ranking - #4 


           Nick Lane of Bowling Green High School is ranked 3rd in the WT in Ohio for the 2017 season. 


           Nick Lane finished 4th in the Weight Throw at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet. 


Sam Meece - Napoleon High School

NBN result - 7th place - 72-03.00

Season's best - 74-1 (OATCCC Indoor State Championship)

U.S. ranking - #5  


           Sam Meece of Napoleon High School is ranked 4th in the Weight Throw in Ohio. 


           Sam Meece finished 7th in the WT event at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet. 


The only non-Ohio resident included in the national top 5 Weight Throw rankings is Shot Put expert Jordan Geist of Pennsylvania's Knoch High School.
