Recruiting VA Athletes Pays Off Yet Again For CNU Who Swept CAC Titles

Nice throw-back interview with Grayson Reid from 2012 as a junior in high school.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Captains of Christopher Newport University not only defended their home track this weekend, they absolutely dominated it. The Men's team scored a monstrous 266 points and the Women's team scored 179 points to sweep the Capital Athletic Conference team titles.

These victories marked the fourth (for the women) and second (for the men) Indoor CAC Championship titles in a row. Together both teams had a staggering 159 point margin of victory.

Though the wins are impressive in their own right, the bragging point for CNU is that 412 of those points were scored by Virginia high school athletes. That equates to 92.5% of the points coming from athletes from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

On the guys' side former Henrico athlete, Ryan Scott set a CAC Championship Meet record in the 200 with his 22.15 clocking. He was joined by Deep Run alum Grayson Reid who also ran a meet & school record of 8:33.12 in the 3K. Sam Murch (Cosby) also set a meet record with his 15:07 5K.

In the women's competition Patrick Henry's Logan Harrington (3) and Smithfield's Hannah Shoemaker (1) combined for four conference titles to lead their team to yet another win. Briana Stewart brought home the win in the 3K in meet record time as well.

The CAC Championships took place this last weekend at the Freeman Center on the campus of CNU in Newport News. They will host a competitive outdoor high school invitational, The 33rd Annual HS Captains Classic, on March 31st and April 1st.
