17 Bold Predictions For 2017

Grant Fisher broke four minutes for the first time at the Nike Festival of Miles.

Two boys will break four minutes in the mile

For the past two years, two high school boys have broken four minutes in the mile during the track season. In 2015, it was Matthew Maton and Grant Fisher. In 2016, it was Drew Hunter and Michael Slagowski. In 2017, I'm going to bet on this trend continuing. My picks are NXN champion Casey Clinger (4:05 PR) and Foot Locker Nationals champion Reed Brown (4:04 PR), though the talented crop of middle distance runners in the Class of 2017 could indicate a ground-breaking year for the mile as NXN runner-up Sam Worley (4:04 PR), 1:48 800m guy Brandon McGorty (4:08 PR) and Clinger's training partner Patrick Parker (4:06 PR) are also capable of adding their names to the record books.
