17 Bold Predictions For 2017

2016 Texas Distance Festival Elite 5K

14 minutes will be broken in track 5K

The 5000m is a rare event outdoors. Only seven athletes in high school history have gone under 14 minutes. Only a handful of returners went under 15:00 last season and no one broke 14:30. I'm going all in on at least an 8th athlete joining the elite group of sub-14 high schoolers which includes all-time greats like Galen Rupp and Steve Prefontaine. New Balance has a 5K at the end of the season but I believe the talent will be too dispersed to put together an elite (committed) field that has a chance to break 14. I'm putting all my eggs in one basket, and it's with my guys at Southlake.

Every year they host the Texas Distance Festival which ends in an elite 5K race. This year, the field will feature some of the best distance runners in the country (more info to come). Combine the Texas all-stars like Reed Brown and Sam Worley with other out of state talent and this could be a record breaking race.
