Did Connor Lane Technically Break NC's McAlpine Course Record? Kinda!

This Saturday Connor Lane booked his trip to Foot Locker Nationals after placing 2nd at Foot Locker South running 14:59.8, the first NC boy to break 15 on that course since 2013.  This places him 13th All-Time for North Carolina Boys on the historic course.  But, at the beginning of the 2015 season, the course was extended 50-60 meters making the course much slower with an added in tight turn around the 2K mark to make it a full 5000 meters.

Ben Huffman broke Ryan Hill's record in 2013 as he also took 2nd place at Foot Locker South.  The course seems to run around 20 seconds slower for the boys as races that were previously won in the 15:10s are now won in the 15:30s with the new course.  It's hard to gauge what Lane would have exactly run on the old course, but is it safe to say that he would of been under Huffman's time of 14:44?

It seems like Huffman's record would be safe forever, but just last year even with the course being extended Sean McGorty's course record of 14:28 fell to Drew Hunter who ran 14:26.  Thought it might take a while, it certainly won't be impossible to see Huffman's 14:44 NC course record be broken some day.  As for Lane's performance, it'll go down as 13th All-Time behind Eric Mack, but it certainly deserves an asterisk beside it.
