Staples' Boys Are Oregon-Bound!

Staples is heading to Oregon!

In what has already turned into a banner year for the Westport school, the Wreckers add another important laurel to their cross-country season on Saturday. Led by a sixth-place finish from senior Zakeer Ahmad, Staples snagged one of the coveted two spots at the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regionals at Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls, NY.

Top-ranked Christian Brothers Academy (NJ) won the regional crown by a narrow 122-132 margin over the runner-up Wreckers. Based on their 1-2 finish, both schools qualified for next Saturday's Nike Cross Nationals at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon.

It's the first time that Staples has qualified for the nationals and comes just two weeks after the Wreckers captured their first New England title since 1989. Comprising the team heading out west is Ahmad (sixth, 16:02.4), junior Benjamin Seiple (19th, 16:27.6), junior Sunil Green (31st, 16:40.8), junior William Landowne (41st, 16:46.3), junior Christian Myers (52nd, 16:51.3), senior Connor Teran (173rd, 17:49.3) and senior Brian MacCordy (181st, 17:56.3).
