Team VA Holds Their Own at USATF Juniors

Team VA did very well out in Clovis California against some tough junior competition that includes college frosh. Even though there was very tough competition, Team VA qualified 10 individuals who tallied up 32 performances and two wins. 

Winning their events were Noah Lyles (10.08 - 100m) and Kate Murphy (9:10.51 - 3000m). Noah's time comes very close to his 10.07 wind-aided effort as a junior last year and Kate Murphy's time ranks as a state record according to our database. 

It was no surprise to see both these athletes on top considering they are also qualified for the Olympic Trials set to take place starting this weekend. Aside from their amazing running ability and competitive edge, these are two of the best ambassadors for our sport and state as a whole.

These two individuals will be joined by Western Branch's Micaiah Harris who ran 20.77 in the 200 to finish second and qualify for World Juniors. 

Finishing just off qualifying (top two qualify) were Rachel McArthur, Grant Holloway, Brandee' Johnson and Syaira Richardson who all finished third in their event. 

Holloway ran a blazing fast 13.37 in the finals to break the previous state record of 13.50. Richardson had her own great story by shocking everyone and running a state record 53.38.

Rachel McArthur finished an impressive third in the 1500m run with her 4:25.66 clocking against collegiate level competition. 

Brandee' Johnson finished third as well in the 400mH with a state record 56.16 performance.
