This weekend, Dalton Hengst of McDonogh School will be traveling down to Orlando, Florida to compete at the Golden South Classic chasing after the auto qualifier in the mile for the Brooks PR Invitational.

The fastest sophomore miler in the country with his 4:10.43 runner-up performance at the New York Relays, Hengst is putting himself in some elite past company if he can run a sub 4:10 in the mile as an underclassmen by the end of his season. He's been competing in many high profile races the past 5 months coming off his stellar freshmen year including the Millrose Games, Raleigh Relays, and Penn Relays.

He has also dropped his PR's down to 1:54.75 in the 800 and 9:15.72 in the 1500. He finished second last summer in at the U.S. team qualifier for the World Youth Trials and had hit the World qualifier in the process, but the USATF opted to take other athletes instead in other events.

Hengst is not planning to be snub again an invite to another major meet as one of his main goals is to be invited either to the adidas Dream Mile or Brooks PR Invitational this post-season to race against the nation's best.

The sophomore Hengst has certainly not been afraid to mix it up with the nation's best in all his races this year.

We visited him on Monday in one of his final workouts to prep for the Golden South Classic, which the Workout Wednesday video of that workout will be coming up tomorrow, May 25th.

Before watching the workout on Wednesday, listen to our 8 minute plus interviews each with both Dalton and his coach Jeff Sanborn.
