Lauren Rain Williams' No. 3 All-Time 200m Highlights California Action


It's state championship season in California, so the state's best athletes have to deliver top performances every weekend to ensure advancement to the next round. This past weekend marked the Division Finals, and Lauren Rain Williams' historic 200m highlighted the action in the Southern Section at Cerritos College.

The junior from Oaks Christian High School ran 22.44 (+2.5) to win the D4 200m, which is just over the allowable wind limit for official records, but is a new, all-conditions U.S. No. 3 all-time mark behind only Allyson Felix (22.11) and Candace Hill (22.43).

She also won the 100m in 11.17 (+3.5). Both times rank all-conditions U.S. No. 1 for 2016, and her 100m mark is just outside of the all-time, all-conditions list.

  • D1: No. 1-ranked 400m runner Michael Norman swept the 400m (46.43), 200m (21.22/-2.8), 4x100m (40.83) and 4x400m relay (3:15.26)
  • D2: Tara Davis swept the 100m hurdles (13.64/+2.7), long jump (US No. 1, 20-8.25/+3.1), triple jump (41-10.25/+2.4)
  • D1: Destiny Collins swept the 1600m (4:52.51) and 3200m (10:26.75); Amanda Gehrich swept the D2 1600m (4:51.62) and 3200m (10:35.39)
  • D1: Isaac Cortes swept the 1600m (4:07.62) and 800m (1:50.55)
  • D2: Defending 100m/200m state champion Zaria Francis swept the 100m (11.51/+3.3) and 200m (23.8/+3.0)

  • Colorado Buffs commit Eduardo Herrera swept the 3200m (9:09.58) and 1600m (4:12.38), plus finished runner-up in the 800m (1:53.85)
  • Oregon recruit Hannah Waller won the 200m (23.82/+4.6) and 400m (54.43)
