World Champion Vashti Cunningham Signs With Nike

One day after winning the high jump at the IAAF World Championships, 18-year-old Vashti Cunningham has signed a professional contract with Nike.

The senior at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas told reporters yesterday that she would likely turn pro, but had not committed to a specific sponsor. On Monday morning, local Las Vegas media organizations tweeted photos from a press conference as Cunningham signed a contract to compete under the sportswear giant.

Cunningham is the daughter of NFL quarterback legend Randall Cunningham, who doubles as her coach. She holds the National High School Record for both the indoor and outdoor seasons at 6-6.25 and 6-5.25. The former mark stands as the World Junior Record and ranks No. 4 All-Time amongst Americans.
