The final and most exciting day of the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships produced four All-American performances by Rhode Island, including one national crown
Barrington senior Bobby Colantonio was the recipient of the individual title on Sunday. The nation's top-ranked weight-thrower cemented his No. 1 status with a winning heave of 81 feet, 5.75 inches. Woonsocket's Jared Briere was eighth with a near PB of 69-1.5.
In the girls; weight throw, state and New England champion Lysah Russell of Classical was third overall with a distance of 55-9. Gianna Rao, a sophomore from Ponaganset, was fourth with a heave of 55-4.25.
La Salle Academy junior DJ Principe led the early stages of the two mile run and finished fourth with a time of 8:59.99. Placing eighth in the race was senior teammate Matt Bouthillette, who crossed the line with a PB of 9:03.45.
The Rams' Eliza Rego placed 12th overall in the girls' two mile with a new state record of 10:33.
Central also set a new R.I. mark, breaking its' record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:22.28. The Knights were 11th overall.
Cumberland's Sean Laverty ran a six-second PB to finish third in his heat and tenth overall in the championship mile. Laverty was timed in 4:13.1.
The last day of the three-day meet kicked off with a runner-up placement from Sam Toolin in the Freshmen Mile. Toolin ran a PB of 4:21.94. Florida's Chase Rivera was the first to break the tape with a 4:19.94 clocking.
